INGRAM SCHOOL OF DANCE Recital Information 2007 THEATER RENTAL FEE A theater rental fee of $45.00 per family is due by Friday - April 27. This fee is used to help defray the costs of renting the Lutcher Theater for one rehearsal and two performances, backdrop rental and freight, sound and light production, theater security, theater insurance, stage and technical crew, program production and printing, ticket printing, paperwork and postage, etc. RECITAL COSTUMES Costumes will be handed out in class the week of May 7 - 11. Younger students will need an adult present to receive instructions. Each student must have, or must have made arrangements to have, the required leg wear and shoes for each class. PLEASE PUT YOUR NAME IN ALL COSTUME PIECES, ALL LEG WEAR AND ALL SHOES. TAKING CARE OF YOUR RECITAL COSTUMES Recital costumes are not to be worn or played with for any reason before recital. Keep them at home in a safe place until recital. They cannot be replaced. COSTUME LINE-UP WEEK There will be no designated "Costume Line-Up Week." If a certain costume needs to come back to the studio to be inspected because of necessary alterations, your instructor will let you know at the time your costume is given to you. If you do have a costume that needs to come back for inspection, do not WEAR that costume TO class. Wear your normal class attire and CARRY your costume. Be sure that your name is in all pieces. REQUIRED DANCE WEAR FOR RECITAL You are responsible for getting the proper leg wear for recital. It is not necessary to purchase new leg wear or shoes as long as what you already have is in overall good condition. The required leg wear for each class is listed below. GIRLS: ( Boys requirements will be discussed individually in each class. ) BALLET & POINTE All ballet and pointe classes ---- "ballet pink" or salmon-colored 100% nylon footed seamless tights. Must be matte finish, NOT SHINY. "Ballet pink," or "salmon," is a peachy, fleshy pink. A new pair may almost look orange, while an older pair will be a more muted, softer color. Older tights are fine as long as they are in good condition. The very pale, almost white, baby pink (sometimes called "theatrical pink") is incorrect. Do not wear panties under your costume. TAP Monday 6:00, Monday 6:30, Tuesday 4:30, Wednesday 3:45 ---- sheer to the waist pantyhose in suntan, taupe, brown or any color (except black) that slightly darkens your natural skin tone. Nude or tan footed matte finish tights are fine as well, and hold up better than pantyhose. Just make sure that the nude or tan tights are NOT SHINY. Do not wear panties under your costume. Monday 8:15 ---- black fishnet tights with back seam. You will also need a black leotard, any style, to wear under your costume. The skirts do not come with briefs. JAZZ / HIP HOP Monday 5:30 ---- black footless tights. Rolled up stirrup tights are okay as long as the opening for the heel does not show. Do not wear panties under your costume. Monday 7:00 ---- bare legs, no socks. May wear pantyhose under costume pants if you'd rather not wear your jazz shoes over your bare feet. Do not wear panties under your costume. Monday 9:00 ---- legwear will be discussed in class. "Girls" will need a black leotard, any style, to wear under your costume. The skirts do not come with briefs. Do not wear panties under your costume. Tuesday 3:45, Tuesday 5:15, Wednesday 4:30 ---- no legwear is necessary. The costumes all come with pants. Do not wear panties under your costume. If you must wear something under there, wear tights, but just make sure they don't show at the hems of your pants. ACRO-GYM Monday 4:45, Monday 7:30 ---- black footless tights. To create a smooth line, tights will be worn under your costume. The color is important because the bottom of your tights may show as the costume pant legs are slightly flared and when inverted, the lower leg will be visible. Do not wear panties under your costume. Wednesday 7:30 ---- black footless tights may be worn under your costume, but are not required. You don't have to wear anything under it if you prefer. Only dancers and people helping to dress dancers will be allowed backstage during the performance. Visitors are more than welcome backstage after the performance is over. BACKSTAGE BEHAVIOR Everyone backstage and in the dressing rooms during rehearsal and performances must remain calm and quiet at all times. Children who are overexcited do not perform well and noise does carry from the backstage area into all other parts of the theater. Nothing is more distracting to the dancers onstage and the audience than commotion backstage. All parents and older students are asked to please help keep the backstage area and dressing rooms as calm and quiet as possible. Games that make no noise and other "keep busy" items are recommended. A video monitor is available backstage where parents and students may sit and watch the recital live. The Lutcher Theater does not allow food or drink backstage. VIDEOS AND PHOTOGRAPHS E Motion Films/Jimi Jams Productions will be videotaping recital this year. They will be taking orders for videos during rehearsal and during both performances. Order forms will also be available at the studio in May. You may video recital yourself as long as you REMAIN SEATED and DO NOT use tripods or extension cords. Gunn's Photography will be available backstage Monday morning during rehearsal only to take photos of dancers in costume. They are offering special package deals. Flyers with the details will be available at the studio soon. With concern for the concentration and safety of the dancers onstage, flash photography is strictly forbidden during the performances. TICKETS Tickets for recital will be given out Saturday, May 12 from 1:00* pm to 3:00 pm at the studio. Each family will receive a total of twelve (12) tickets randomly drawn in sets of four (4) downstairs and two (2) upstairs for Saturday, and four (4) downstairs and two (2) upstairs for Sunday. Some extra tickets will be available in the upper balcony for both performances. Please call Jeanette Boehme at 883-4021 anytime before recital or ask for them at the door. If you find that you have more tickets than you plan on using, please return the extras to the studio anytime before the recital or return them at the theater door. Before coming to pick up your tickets, please give some consideration to the following questions: 1. "Wheelchair space" - will you need space for someone to sit in a wheelchair? Which day? 2. "Lap tickets" - will you be holding a baby or small child on your lap? How many? Which day? If you have any questions concerning tickets, please call Jeanette Boehme at 883-4021. If no answer, please leave a message. Your call will be returned. * Because the tickets will be drawn randomly by you, there is no need to come early and line up to be "the first" to draw. The last person to draw is just as likely to get the best tickets as the first person is and everybody is guaranteed the same amount of tickets downstairs and upstairs for each performance. If you are unable to pick up your tickets at this time, you may make arrangements for someone other than yourself to pick up your tickets. If no one comes for your tickets, your downstairs tickets only will be drawn for you and placed in an envelope at the studio where you may pick them up at any time during normal studio hours. If no one comes for your tickets, upstairs tickets will not be drawn for you unless you call and request them. PROGRAM PROOFING A draft copy of the program will be posted at the studio. Please check your name for the correct spelling and placement. Let someone know immediately if there is a mistake. PERFECT ATTENDANCE AWARDS Perfect Attendance Awards will be handed out in class the week of May 28 - June 1. Parents are welcome to come into the studio and take photos if they wish. A list of students receiving awards will be posted at the studio. MEMORIAL DAY We will have class on Memorial Day - Monday, May 28. We will be holding all Monday classes as usual on Monday, May 28 since it is the last Monday before recital. If you have holiday plans and cannot attend, we certainly understand, and the absence will not count against perfect attendance. However, if you have no conflicting plans, we highly recommend that you attend class. |
