Recital dates
for 2010:
Monday and
Tuesday, June 7 and 8, 2010
Yep, it's our
same ol'
Monday/Tuesday we've
had for the past few years... couldn't go with the first Tuesday in
June as it falls after Memorial Day, and the theater is not available
on that weekend. Oh
well, by now we know how to adapt
to them, and soccer/softball/basketball players, your weekend
tournament won't
interfere, nor will prom, UIL, etc. =)
Parents,
be
sure
to
make
arrangements
to be off that
Monday morning for
rehearsal, 8:30 am to noon-ish, or have someone else available to look
after your dancer that morning.
FYI
How I chose this year's
recital dates.....
From the start, the first two
weekends in May, and the weekend of Memorial Day were not
available.
We were 3rd to pick this year. Rose Thayer went first and chose
the
weekend of May 22. Lorna Badon was 2nd and she picked the weekend
of
June 5. That left the second weekend in May or a weekend in June
starting with June 12 and later. The second weekend in May was
available,
but only at a high cost. Earlier this year, I was told of a
potential
conflict that could arise and was asked to please do what I could to
avoid it if at all possible. A very dear, and long-time dance
family
is having a daughter (a former Ingram dancer) graduate from Texas
A&M the weekend of May 15. Their younger daughter is
graduating
from high school this year. By choosing that weekend, I would
force
the younger sister to choose between missing her sister's college
graduation and missing her senior recital/solo. I could not do
that.
So, I went with the first available Monday and Tuesday in June, June 7
and 8. We've done the Monday/Tuesday thing for several years now,
and
we can do it again. =)
How recital dates are picked:
All local (and some not-so-local) studios are on a rotation
list. After appearing at the top of
the list (first picks), you drop down to the last spot and then work
your way back up again. With only 2 - 3 prime weekend dates
available at the theater, odds are that the lower picks on the list
will end up with a late weekend in June, or having recital on a
weekday. While having a weekday recital still means waiting until
all the local schools are out for summer, I still prefer that to having
a really, really late recital, just to get weekend dates. Given
my first choice, I aim for the 3rd weekend in May. Back when
there were only a few of us on the rotation list, we usually ended up
with what we wanted, but now that the list has grown, we more often
than not end up with less desirable dates. However, our parents
and students have always approached these alternative dates with
cooperative attitudes and good spirits in the past, and I'm sure this
positive outlook will continue in the future. For this, I am
extremely grateful and appreciative, and I thank you.
